Built from a Peruvian hardwood that is one of my favorites, this instrument is 22-1/8” in length, with a 1” bore diameter. Dr. Google says I am the only builder of flutes from this material.

Additional woods, include a mouthpiece of African thuya burl, between layers of twice dyed box elder burl, and capped with the huangana negra. The 22mm discs inset to the sides of the compression chamber are again, Box elder burl, with some subtle hand colorizing. Lastly, the fetish is cut from huangana negra, bonded to Oklahoma red cedar for moisture control. The wing overlay is abalone, mappa burl, and African zircote.

Stone inlay was somewhat expensive, but beautiful. The mouthpiece includes a 9x11mm Australian boulder opal, flanked by 4mm turquoise cabs, while each side of the compression chamber includes powdered inlay of Ethiopian jasper, and Battle Mt. Nevada turquoise as well as 4mm Australian fire opal cabs. Forward from the fetish, the flute is set with a stunning 15x19mm Lightning Ridge Australian boulder opal while the finger holes are accented with four 4mm abalone dots, and a 6 mm dome cut rainbow topaz. Lastly, the fetish has a 6mm hematite cab set to the crown, and two 2.4mm hematite beads, set as eyes.The flute includes a removable (slide off) wrap of Western diamondback rattlesnake skin, harvested from the Spike Box ranch, outside Benjamin TX. And tanned here at Querencia Woodwinds.

The flute was tuned at a wood temp. of 74 degrees F, an ambient temp. of 72.8 degrees F, @ a humidity level of 38%.
