This F#m flute is built from Hawaiian curly koa, and took just North of 90 hours to complete. Given the pedigree of the wood, I chose to forgo the southwest Native American accents, in favor of materials more aligned with the islands of the Pacific. The bird is supposed to be the “Io” which is indigenous to the Hawaiian Islands, and mine doesn’t look anything like the Io. That particular animal is not very attractive, but then, neither is mine.

Ingredients include, in addition to the koa, three varieties of dyed/stabilized box elder burl, yellow dyed maple, SE Asian amboyna burl, Virginia walnut burl veneer, systemically dyed maple, where the tree was fed colored water during its growth cycles and then harvested and veneered…and lastly Oklahoma red cedar for moisture control. Instrument accents include paua abalone, rainbow moonstone, labradorite,(a healing stone), spiny oyster, a black pearl, and two coin pearls set into the compression chamber…….Get out and vote today and let’s try and bring an end to all the squabbling.
