Poplar Gm…
1 in stock
This Poplar flute is only 18-7/8” in length, and with a 1” bore diameter, projects great volume. Woods used in the construction, beginning at the mouthpiece, include twice dyed and stabilized box elder burl, between layers of redwood burl, and capped with the poplar. Each side of the compression chamber likewise uses these materials, 10 and 16mm, as well as a touch of pyro/powdered turquoise. The fetish block is cut from poplar and bonded to a base of Oklahoma red cedar for moisture control. The wing overlay consists of paua abalone, yellow and blue systemically dyed maple** and mappa burl.
Inlay, again starting at the mouthpiece includes a 6.8mm Sterling and stone repurposed earring from New Mexico, flanked by 4.5mm turquoise beads. Forward from the fetish, I set a 12 x 22mm oval cut labradorite crystal, while the finger holes are accented with four 4mm abalone dots, and a 6mm cab of orange coral.
The tuning process began with a wood temperature of 77°F, an ambient temp. of 72.3°F, and a humidity level of 61%, at sea level.
**Prior to harvest, the tree was fed colored water, during different growth cycles. When harvested, the material was veneered, exhibiting a rainbow of different colors.
