At 18-7/8 inches in length, this soft wood cousin of cottonwoods, has a 1” bore diameter, and a substantial voice, atypical of the material.

Woods used in the construction, beginning at the mouthpiece, include Oregon spalted maple between layers of Macassar ebony, capped with the poplar. The fetish block is cut from poplar, bonded to a base of Oklahoma red cedar for moisture control. The wing overlay includes paua abalone, birdseye maple, more paua abalone, and again, macassar ebony.

Inlay, starting at the mouthpiece includes a 7mm dome cut Ethiopian fire opal flanked by 4.2mm turquoise dots. The compression chamber is accented with matching 16mm macassar ebony disks, themselves inset with 6.4mm abalone cabs. The sound chamber is set with a13x18mm oval cut quartz capped abalone cab, while the finger holes include four 4mm abalone dots, and a 7mm dome cut turquoise cab. Lastly, the fetish block has a 6mm black pearl set to the crown, and 2.8mm hematite beads set as eyes.

The flute was tuned at an ambient temperature of 72.1°F, a wood temperature of 75.2°F, and a relative humidity of 63%.
