Boutique lumber peddlers like to call this material “Rainbow” poplar, but if rainbows have this color where you live,…it’s time to move. The process is nothing more than the tree’s uptake of highly mineralized ground water during it’s growth cycles. It will occasionally take on the hues of a rainbow, but not often.

As for the tuning, and a simple explanation from Google “432Hz resonates with 8 Hz (the Schumann Resonance), the documented fundamental electromagnetic “beat” of Earth. It just feels better. Research says that music tuned from this frequency is easier to listen to, brighter, clearer, and contains more inherent dynamic range.” ….highly controversial, but animals seem to like it. Your flute circle might not.

This instrument is 20-11/16 inches in length, with a 1” bore diameter..Woods used, beginning at the mouthpiece, include twice dyed box elder burl, between layers of Bolivian rosewood, and capped with the poplar, while each side of the compression chamber are inset with 19mm and 9mm disks of the box elder burl as well. The fetish block is cut from the poplar and bonded to a base of Oklahoma red cedar for moisture control. The wing overlay consists of abalone, systemically dyed maple** walnut burl, and mappa burl.

Inlay, again, at the mouthpiece includes a very nice 8x10mm quartz capped abalone oval, flanked by 4mm turquoise dots. The sound chamber includes a 13x25mm teardrop cut labradorite cab, while the finger holes are accented with four 5mm abalone dots, and a 6mm spiny oyster cab.. Lastly, the fetish has a 6mm black pearl set to the crown, and 2.8mm hematite beads set as eyes.

**A maple tree was watered with colored water during its growth cycles. When harvested and veneered, the wood had absorbed the various hues of the watering. This is not dissimilar to Mother Nature’s process of creating rainbow poplar.

The flute was tuned at a wood temp of 74.3° F. an ambient temp. of 72.4°F, with a humidity factor of 58%, at sea level.

Please note, completely removing to block for drying purposes is unnecessary. Simply loosening the ties and slipping the fetish to the side overnight is sufficient.
