SE Asian Paldao Dm

The key of D, is not one of your zippy, happy dance flute voicings. It is generally played slowly, evoking spirituality. Compared to an Fm or G, it requires more air, has less volume, and has wider distancing between finger holes.

This flute is 24-1/4” in length, with a 1” bore diameter. Beginning at the mouthpiece, woods used in construction include SE Asian amboyna burl, between layers of African ebony, and capped with the paldao. Each side of the compression chamber is accented with 19mm disks of the amboyna  burl, and lastly, the fetish block starts with the paldao bonded to a base of Oklahoma red cedar for moisture control. After carving, the wing overlay to each side includes abalone, curly maple, walnut burl, addl. abalone, mappa burl, and blue dyed maple. The colorizing of this maple was done while the tree was still growing, wherein it was fed colored water during growth cycles, and then veneered after harvest.

Inlay, starting at the mouthpiece includes a 7x9mm Zuni multi stone/silver cab, flanked by 4mm turquoise dots. The sound chamber is inset with a 16x24mm teardrop labradorite cabochon, while the finger holes are accented with four 5.2mm abalone cabs, and a 6mm dome cut labradorite cabochon. Lastly, the fetish block is set with a 4ct. 7mm sapphire to the crown, and 2.8mm hematite beads set as eyes.

The flute was tuned @ a wood temp. of 77.3°F , an ambient temp. of 72.7°F, a humidity factor of 65%, at sea level.

**The amboyna burl accents were all very subtly hand colorized, just because it’s fun.

**Purchase includes a slide off wrap of South Dakota prairie rattlesnake skin. ALWAYS  remove this wrap if attending a Native American function with this instrument.
