This instrument is 19-7/8 inches in length, with a 7/8 inch bore diameter. The wood varieties in addition to the walnut include California buck eye burl, SE Asian amboyna burl, box elder burl, mappa burl, and Oklahoma red cedar. The mouthpiece consists of the buckeye burl between layers of the amboyna, capped with the walnut. The compression chamber has 19mm of the buckeye and 9.5mm disks of dyed/stabilized box elder burl set to each side, while the fetish is cut from walnut, bonded to a base of Oklahoma red cedar for moisture control. Wing overlay consists of paua abalone, mappa burl, and additional buckeye burl.

Inlay begins with a12.7mm natural coin pearl flanked by 4mm turquoise dots set to the mouthpiece, with pyrographics and a little Sleeping Beauty Mine crushed turquoise set to each side of the compression chamber. That assemblage is further accented with 4.8mm orange pearls. The sound chamber starts with an18x22mm teardrop Mexican crazy lace agate, with finger hole accents of four 5mm abalone dots, and a 6mm dome cut hematite cab. Lastly, the bird has another orange pearl set to the crown, and 2.8mm hematite beads set as eyes. Yep, it’s another bird. There is just so much more you can do with a bird than say a pony, squirrel, or gopher.

At tuning, the non contact laser wood temp, was 72.8° F, the ambient temp. was 72.0° F and the humidity factor was 34% at sea level.

**** I’m including with this instrument a slide on, removable wrap for the far end of the flute, because I made it previously, and it fits. This does not replace the permanent rawhide wrap further up the sound chamber. The slide off is crafted from South Dakota prairie rattlesnake skin, and it is imperative you read the paperwork before even think of leaving your home with this wrap. Seriously.
