Ebony Alowood Em,…22-7/8” in length….After searching for this material since 2010 , I’ve come to the unfortunate conclusion that this ship has sailed. I’ve referenced it before, and it is an engineered/plantantion grown radiata pine from New Zealand. It was designed to turn soft wood, into hardwood, by blowing starch through the materials, the engineers then figured out they could colorize the starch, and this was their ebony Alowood product. Initially developed as a flooring product, the company lasted about 18 months as a result of the collapsing housing market of 2009-10. I offer a shiny nickel and a huge thank you to anybody that can locate more of this material. It was a truly remarkable tone wood for my work, and this instrument represents the end of that journey..
Components of this build include dyed/stabilized box elder burl, and Oklahoma red cedar as a mounting platform for the fetish block. The signed Mountain Lion block is hand cut from jet, by Zuni carver Emery Boone and includes accents of turquoise and mother of pearl. Additional materials include an Arizona turquoise cab, a couple of Australian fire opals, turquoise dots, abalone dots, a 6mm dome cut labradorite cab, known for it’s healing properties, and a beautiful amalgam of spiny oyster, copper, and turquoise.I added a 1mm knotless rawhide wrap as well, because it is a fun thing to do. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
