So this would be an instrument I built during the month of August. As is typical, it is tuned at 440 Hz, in this case to F#m, and has a 1” bore diameter. I briefly thought about a 432 Hz tuning, then thought, if you throw the flute in the refrigerator, bringing the wood temp down to 53° F…it would play at 432.1 Hz. This was a monumentally stupid idea, as you would have to play it from within the refrigerator.

The flute was built from one of my least favorite materials, Ambrosia maple, but it was surprisingly very cooperative. I went a little crazy with pyrographics, generated from my head, during dreams or nightmares….I don’t know which. It was particularly rewarding to me in that respect……Additional ingredients include cocobolo, SE Asian amboyna burl, black and white African ebony, wing overlay to the bird of abalone and 5 different wood veneers, an amalgam of spiny oyster, copper and turquoise, in one stone, as well as Australian fire opal, faceted Brazilian azotic topaz, some kind of oval agate forward from the fetish, hematite, turquoise dots, and abalone dots to the finger holes, each set separated by a 6mm spiny oyster cagochon……I hope everybody is enjoying the last gasp of Summer. Play nice.
