So this is an Eastern red cedar flute for May, with a few interesting touches….Back on each side of the compression chamber, I tried to create a flock of geese, and I probably won’t do that again. The fetish block, cut from dyed box elder burl, began as a bird, specifically a road runner, however, to my eye, it looks more like a coyote with a bad haircut, and wearing a clown outfit. You get to decide….down at the far end of the instrument, I drilled two tuning holes, making the flute think it was an Fm, instead of hovering around an E minor. I then disguised those holes by surrounding them with a gecko. , with pyrographics and hand coloring. Since MY gecko only has four toes, and real world geckos have five, I gave it a turquoise dot at the end of the tail, as a gift…..Additional ingredients include SE Asian amboyna burl, Texas mesquite, Laotian flamewood, six different woods for the block overlay, Bisbee AZ malachite, hematite, abalone and a couple of stones reflecting an amalgam of turquoise, copper, and spiny oyster. I hope everybody is thawing out. I could use a little global warming here at Rancho Relaxo this year. Play nice.
