So, I have one more flute left to build after this one. Each instrument takes about a month, and both of my heavy lifter apprentices have moved on in their careers and retirement, and at 77 years of age, dragging out a table saw, and router/table, will require somebody other than me. Flute problems I can solve, strength and manpower problems, not so much….But I digress. This instrument is my second and last flute to be built from “ambrosia maple” which as I mentioned before, is the name of a destructive maple beetle and not a fruit salad. Additional ingredients include Canadian moose antler @ the mouthpiece, 50 million year old “dragonskin” ammolite, from the Canadian Bear Paw formation, coin pearls, labradorite, abalone, turquoise, Brazilian azotic topaz, hematite, and my favorite pyrographic challenge burned into the sound chamber. It is 20-7/8” in length, tuned to F#m, with a beautiful voice. I hope I get things together to build more flutes, in the meantime, enjoy the rest of your Summer.
